Damn Trapezoid, you always seem to tell it right.
And, no, I am not being sarcastic.
But I was thinking, the heavy metal symbol Dio popularized, he got from his Grandmother who did it to ward off the "Evil Eye"
Perhaps, he's paying homage to her their as a little side thing.
Not trying to contradict Trapezoids explanation because what he says about Dio's songs is always better than what others say.
@Hybrid1492 Yes, it is a superstition that some Italians and Greeks believe in, μάτι [mati] in Greek and malocchio in Italian. (Could also be believed in other countries that I am not aware of.) You can ether give or receive the look (evil eye), most commonly is given by envy.
Among other things the evil eye is believed to cause dizziness and headaches.
Both Italians and Greeks use charms to protect themselves from it or pray to "lift the curse". Dio's hand gesture is known as corna
which also is believed to ward off the evil eye.
