Her rebuttal is that if he's really so close, he should be able to reach out and touch her. Perhaps she feels that he hasn't been there enough for her, or doubts the relationship because he's not there physically. (An "I'll believe it when I see it," kind of thing.) I say that, because I can't think of any reason she should respond so.. negatively, unless it was because it wans't possible. ;\
This also causes most of the chorous make sense; "Have you given too much away...Did the going get tough this time?" since it would be difficult to make time for this person if the only way to contact them is over the internet or phone, especially if the distance spans timezones.
