Cover art for Fox in the Snow lyrics by Belle & Sebastian

"but the kid has no cynicism because he is young and naive and so just plays in the snow, that one gratifying moment whereby he knows happiness and youth will never be repeated "once a lifetime" until he grows up and then when the wonder has worn off he will become the fox or the girl or the boy."

Yeah, I agree with this and a lot of what's already been mentioned. I also had this idea scavenging and desperation- foxes are seen as 'pests' here and aren't protected. There's that feeling of vulnerability of people going nowhere but stuck in a self-destructive routine that, in effect isolates them. But it then increases a desperate to get out of the pattern whether it be "To tell someone all the truth before it kills you" or to go cycling around up and down, trying to get somewhere but getting nowhere. That feeling of trying to get out but when you try, "what do they know anyway?" when you don't get that reaction or understanding you wanted- and then isolating yourself more.
