obviously the person he's singing about is really guarded and won't let people get through to them. he's saying that it's not his fault, it's other people's and things from her past maybe (like georgie said). i think he wants to know what's going on in her head because he likes her a lot but because she's got her borders up, they aren't getting on as well.
