I particularly like the over-whelming sense of apathy in this song.

It's almost as if he's been doing his best to find the good in everything, to remain optimistic, and only now does he realize that there may not be a brighter side to every situation. He comes to all these conclusions about things not being as he initially perceived them. My favorite section of the song; "Will the flood behind me put out the fire inside me?" sounds as if he's contemplating whether or not he can hold out against the sudden, negative revelations.

"I'll let you tear it up, if you don't wake me up 'cause it's apparent that you don't care, and it's sunk into me, because I don't care, now no one cares."

It almost gives you the feeling that he was the last person with a positive outlook on life, society, whichever, and now that he's stood alone in his ideals for so long, he's given himself over to complete and utter apathy. In my opinion, it's a song about doing one's best not to give up in the face of negativity, and succumbing to it regardless.
