Seriously? Because I don't see that at all. For me it's more like, a couple doesn't want to put up with all the crap the rest of the world is giving them for one reason or another, and they want to leave and live happily ever after together. I can see where you say it's the end, from "let's take the easy way out" and "let's pull the curtains down and leave", but I see those lines more as a way to seperate themselves from the world. And "she's stepping on my shoes/and i couldn't want it more" is like he loves her little quirks and such.
But I totally agree that it's best song on the album.
Exactly. Although from the melancholy feel of this song I'd say that there is something hindering them from just up and running off. They love each other; she's stepping on his toes because she can't get close enough and he's ecstatic. But the RIGHT way out is typically the HARD way out so him saying 'let's take the EASY way out' might be him being hopelessly ideal; maybe even just for the sake of showing affection. Either way; hard, right, wrong, easy, they'll never separate completely...because they can't :)
