My mom and I was listening to this song, as well as looking at the lyrics. We both agreed that it highly reminds us of the age of the Crusades way back in old English. They were all blood-thirsty barbarians, and they were doing this for a "Pope", as well as, like Weird Al would say, "Scoring points for the afterlife". So they would brutally kill anything that moved that wasn't in their armor, and think after winning the battles for the Pope, they'd go to Heaven. But it was all, as this song explains, pretty much unholy. A pope who's position wasn't one of good, not at all. It's a great song if you like black/goth metal.
