Ooooh, I think I got something for this one =] Well somewhere (I think it was Wikipedia) I read that some of Borknagar's lyrics deal with the cosmos. I think this song is about the universe in general and questioning its existance... this verse kinda reminded me of the universe.

Am I right? Also, I think the title "The Black Canvas" is a metaphor for the universe. When it first began it was like a canvas an artist would use... empty. Or "canvas" could mean that the universe has the potential for anything to happen, again, much like an artist's canvas =] Although I could be completely wrong.
