I think it is just pure genius by Timberlake how he manages to set two different tones and do it so well.
My take on this song is he is out in a club and he spots a girl he likes, and he begins to fall in love for her,the music is upbeat and he is confident he will get her hence: "She might be goin' home with me tonight".
But as the night/song goes on he starts to realise he is not going to get her, the music changes to a more depressing mood and it seems as if he surreneders. Hence: "And now I walk around without a care
She's got me hooked
It just ain't fair"
