Terrific lyrics, very complex song, but I think I have worked it out. It is the mystery of religion, nobody probably noticed but the first two verses are sang by durst playing two characters, the first verse is done by Durst as a christian, and second as an athiest, pure genius
i’m kinda sick of being aggravated, i’m glad I’m hated
i guess i’m doin’ somethin’ right- Because the athiests hate the whole thing to do with god, the christian is saying he could care less if he and his religion are hated, because he believes is his mind he still doing something right for god
‘ cuz there’s a chamber deep inside the brain
that’s covered with chains, so don’t be shakin’ ‘em loose- He is saying to all the other christians sensitive to critisism and vocal batterings, it is great enough that you have faith, but although your religion is mocked by alot of people, stay faithful, don't loose your head, and you will get your wings, for you are the sterotypical angel concience
such a drag thinking everything sucks (do ya?)
walk away with the spit on your face?
or do ya draw the line just to give ‘em a taste?- The athiest on the other hands will go to extreme lenghs for his beliefs, and his beliefs that religion is all a lie, and that it is a spit in the face, and a joke, making mockeries of people converting to christianity
another note, don’t forget you had a chance- This is a mocking part by the athiest, pretending to be christian, sarcasticly saying a person had a chance and will burn in hell because of this
head for the barricade
i ain’t playin’ around- Both the christian and atheist speak here, the christian says head for the barricade, which is the word for church in this song, and the athiest is saying i'm not messing around with this joke you call christianity, i'm not a sheep like you
An excellant piece by Fred Durst, a song which shows both sides of religion, joke? saved? God? no such thing? It's your opinion, said durst in an interview, and shows that he is very open minded, and can respect both opinions, great work
