I think its more of Anthony seperating himself from something. He says "your voice is crackin' up across state lines", implying that the distance from whatever he's talking about is making the voice of the object hard to understand.

This could be multiple things, if you ask me. It could be a girl, or his seperation from heroin, or from former band mates such as Hillel Slovak.

However, I doubt this is about drugs, from the heavy notions of love. The notions do not exclude Hillel from the picture though.

All and all, its about seperation from the love of something, and how he selflessly ignores the object, saying "I tell you that I could be living Today with you or without you, ok".

Whatever, thats just what I got.

The "ok" in this line, "I tell you that I could be living Today with you or without you, ok," sounds very sarcastic to me. I don't think he's ignoring the person (or object, although I think it's clearly about a person), I think he's saying he can't really live without them.
