I watched a documentary on youtube called "The making of Colour the Small One"-(awesome, watch it if you get a chance) and Sia herself says that this song is about a bad comedown off ectascy-about the lonliness, and about being the last person to comedown, and when you do everyone else is asleep and you just can't rest....
For me personally, I can relate to this on so many levels, for me, on first listening I interpreted it as the struggle you feel in a realtionship where it's destructive, but you don't want to let go.The first verse to me desribes the way she feels about the person, and how it effects her;
You're honey dipped
You are beautiful, floating clouds, soft world
I can't feel my lips
and how the whole thing is actually ruining her:
I'm going down, I don't want to change
I'm going down, going down the drain
-losing yourself, losing your identity, feeling like your life is going down the drain, veering off track.
Don't bring me down, I beg you
Don't bring me down, I won't let you
Don't bring me down- the feeling of helplessness, begging this person not to destroy her, but internally, never voicing it out loud.
And then being at a crossroads;
"So now for restless mind, I could go either way"
She could detroy herself or save herself, and she doesn't have a clue how its going to pan out....
For me the ectascy story and the fucked up relationship story run parralell to eachother, so the whole song feels very apt.
