Cover art for Valhalla lyrics by Blind Guardian

"Valhalla" is not German and it does not mean "Heaven" ("Himmel" is German for "Heaven"). "Valhalla" is Old Norse and literally means "halls of the slain". In Norse Mythology it's where Odin and the Valkyries lived and where the souls of warriors fallen in battle went. And then at Ragnarök (the end of the world) they all get to fight Jormungandr and Fenrir.

Like all of Blind Guardian's other songs, this one is a little cryptic. The basic idea is obvious but because they lyrics don't use many names and they describe nothing except for feelings and atmosphere. But I tend to agree with the guy who said it's about Christianity superseding Paganism in Medieval Europe.

If you are refering to TheAwesum, he didn't say German, he said in the area where today is Germany and other Germanic tribes also believed in Valhalla, not only Norsemen (and "Himmel" comes from the Germanic "ħeminaż" - "what is above us" and refered originally to the sky, not to a heaven).
