considering some of their other songs have religious content perhaps this song is about losing the belief of religion (christianity i assume?). serpents eyes could refer to the devil..which is associated with god vs devil (also how if you dont believe in god then youre on the devils side). He feels alive because he has come to the realisation that what he has been taught through religion/belief was all wrong. The line ' twenty seven invincible years, where do you go when nowhere feels like home' could mean he was brought up with those beliefs and he lived by them his whole life but now he feels lost because he cant see it that way anymore. Also the line about walking into the light but the light is not there could mean the light that is often related to heaven and dying..coz he doesnt believe in it now its not there. Just my spin on it...could be wrong but its just the ideas that sprung to mind.
