This whole thing to me talks about how he started hitting it big in UK, but really wanted the comfort of his home, US: Someone said the Killers popped out in UK first, despite being from US. His little town is uninspiring, and it is starting to get to him.
Something about his judges finding out the truth about him, and thinking he wasted their time. The next verse is all about Americana. I read an article that Brandon was originally fixated on brit rock, and even sand in a british accent from time to time, if this is true, it makes sense. Maybe people found out he wasn't a brit and thought that sucked. He used to act the part apparently, AND they hit in in UK before here. I think the whole second first is saying, "I'm so american I remember grandma dixie's wake and my brother was born of the 4th of july. And that is all. No foreign glam, just all american. And maybe this disappointed.
Apparently Grandma Dixie is a hiking trail in Memphis, or something. And everyone recognizes Dixie as an old west name.
Sick of his judges, they're just trying to keep him down.

I See London I see Sam's town. London is where he started, but someone said sam's town in a casino, and he grew up in vegas. Also, Sam's Town could be the whole uncle same thing.
It's like saying he has his sights set on london, and it's within view, so he decides to take on America? I see london, even better, I see Sam's Town. Being on home turf perhaps makes it easier for him.
Just sorta what I see.

Basically, "I'm not effing british, but you americans wouldn't listen to a small town boy or big city casino brat. But to the British, I'm exotic. And once the British are into it, it'll make it exotic to you. And I'm in. hahaha I tricked you." Which is really.... just downright genius.
