The next verse is all about Americana. I read an article that Brandon was originally fixated on brit rock, and even sand in a british accent from time to time, if this is true, it makes sense.
Maybe people found out he wasn't a brit and thought that sucked. He used to act the part apparently, AND they hit in in UK before here. I think the whole second first is saying, "I'm so american I remember grandma dixie's wake and my brother was born of the 4th of july. And that is all. No foreign glam, just all american. And maybe this disappointed.
Apparently Grandma Dixie is a hiking trail in Memphis, or something. And everyone recognizes Dixie as an old west name.

London is where he started, but someone said sam's town in a casino, and he grew up in vegas. Also, Sam's Town could be the whole uncle same thing.
It's like saying he has his sights set on london, and it's within view, so he decides to take on America? I see london, even better, I see Sam's Town. Being on home turf perhaps makes it easier for him.
