I originally thought this song was about a lover, but I think most people naturally assume that about most songs. Upon closer examination, I definately think it addresses her parents. They have "given [her] the arms" to fight in the real world. She questions whether they will regret spending money on her because she has turned out to be a risk (for trying to make it in the music business?). Her parents are like many...pragmatic and concerned about their child's security. I absolutely love this song.
