its lovely isn't it. its quite a negative song but its done so beautifully. perhaps its about someone he knows who has problems but wont say, and drinks to cover them or hide and, well, is just 'not nice' as a result of their problems and drunkenness.
he likes the person, i think the beauty of the song and its tenderness shows he cares, but that person's struggling and they change into someone he can't like who wont listen or try to help themselves and he's a bit fed-up.
