"Through muffled screams and swollen eyes.
From loss and pills and alibis.
I always find my romance in the emergency room."
^obviously talking about a fight, in a past tense. once more this guy find his heart in a state of distress, in a metaphorical "Emergency Room."
"I remind you of everything you hate.
And your remind me, i'm the one to blame."
^still talking about the fight, whatever it is, he knows it's his fault.
"I fight with myself to get you out of my head
But i'm hangin' off of every word you said."
^obvious meaning here. he loves her, but knows that nothing's bringing her back. or perhaps he is leaving her because he doesn't want to hurt her anymore. imagine a guy being torn between memories of something great and knowing that he has to end/leave it behind.
"Forced heartbeat and broken mirrors.
Flaws and faults are held so dear.
My reflection makes me sick.
The pain we feel is nothing new."
^going on along the same theme. the singer has been in this situation before, and every time he goes through this, he feels like he's seen it all happen before. this time is a reflection, different, but at the same time the exact same, as all the times before.
"Prescription drugs and photographs.
Love, loneliness and nervous laughs.
^drugs in this case, by context of his other songs, probably refers to anti-depressants. if i recall correctly, both of the band members were on antideps for a while. anyway, taking the pills, he reviews all the photographs he shared with this girl, reminding him of all the great times they had
"What you call "misery through anxious eyes" is something i can see."
^first off, "misery through anxious eyes" describes a situation in which a person feeling pashionate for another, stares at them, so to speak. perhaps this girl has told him about how she looked at him in such a manner before they went out, but now it's his turn, after they broke up, to feel "misery through anxious eyes" directed back at her.
that's my $0.02. this band is amazing, broke my heart when they broke up (the band, not the guy and the girl haha). check out their follow up projects, some good stuff on those too. cheers.
oookay, here's my breakdown of this amazing song:
