Yes, this song is amazing. Beautiful vocals. It's my second favorite Rosie Thomas song (after Death Came and Got Me) so far.

I don't know if this is the way it's supposed to be interpreted, but I kind of see it as the way we escape from reality at different points in our lives.

I see the first verse as when she's a little girl escaping the reality that she has to grow up so she runs to her special place in the yard. The second verse is more towards adolescence and early adulthood where you feel insecure and you feel like you just want to end everything, hence: "And I'm praying my savior would just place a gun in my hands."

The third verse is, I think, what happens to you if you escape from reality too much. You begin to get caught up in the fantasy world you've created and insanity creeps up on you.

We all have our own ways of "running away" or escaping reality. When she says "I run far from you" I don't think she's talking about a person; I think "you" is supposed to represent reality.

We all have our own ways of escaping into our worlds of "mermaids and stars" to "escape who [we've] become."

Awesome song.
