I suppose there are some people who would prefer that Ed just write bland lyrics, but this is a big part of whom Eddie Vedder seems to be: a responsible, caring citizen of the world. He's just expressing his opinion. I, for one, happen to agree with him, especially in this song. Bush decided "they" are the enemy; in fact "they" needn't have been.
