i tend to think it's more about this person going to the grocery store looking to score with the baker girl.
he's putting on his best act but he's just losing it every time when he sees her. and he ends up looking like hell, walking home alone with one of her precious key-lime pies. as that's the best he could do.
perhaps, though. he does manage to "score" as the last two lines feel right triumphant.
