I love this song. That said, I'm a bit confused about her use of the term "box your ears." The only meaning I know of that phrase is as a physical punishment (hitting the ears). It perplexes me every time I hear it, but maybe I'm just ignorant.
I think it refering to the distant nature of whomever she's writing about. She's asking if they don't wish that someone would ground them, be it through affection or a smack uptop the head when they need it.
