This is a really sad song... But what it seems to be, is a dream a woman, or perhaps a girl, had of forming a band.. She gathers it together, but when she releases an LP, it doesn't get anywhere..
Then it gets foggy with "even though she dreamed it up." Meaning... either literally, in that she dreamed of a failing gig then freaked out, or by the next line about a nightmare, that instead of a dream gig it was horrible. She/the band breaks up after that little bit, then her basement's back to normal... Meaning either he dream's over literally, or that her dream of hitting it big is over.
