Eyecon ... What can I say. You really need to read more carefully IMHO.
Anywayz: It's obviously a love song, the character seems to have been "love-proof", not caring about the women next to him:
"Thought I knew the rules, thought I held it in my hand
Thought I was bulletproof"
... and then boom! He meets this perfect lady and he's hopeless
"Did we put you way up there or did God send you down from above?"
he falls in love but he refuses to acknowledge it and turns her down, then after some time he realises his foolishnes
"And the proof is in the bloodshot eyes of the one who failed to see"
