I was just a kid when this song came out, so it didn't really have any special meaning for me, other than that I just liked it. But when I hit my teen years, of course, like many other teens, I went through my series of "true loves"...you know, where you practically breathe in their very essence...and they don't even know you exist, even if they've been sitting in front of you in home room or copying your homework or test papers for years. I'd worn out several cassette tapes over the years listening to this song while I mooned over the "true love" of the moment, and to this day it still holds many bitterswet memories of youth for me. It's one of those classics that just seem to bring back a more innocent time, when love really did conquer all and everything was possible. As long as there's love, unrequited or otherwise--songs like this will have a place in the world.
