i haven't listened to this song in years, but my thoughts on it haven't changed. i listened to it today and it is still as heartwrenching and meaningful.
i think the meaning is a little more simple than what previous people have posted. i believe it's about running into an old friend who is too embarassed to see you because of their new lifestyle or whatever the reason for your falling out was (though it could be just not seeing each other or talking for awhile). either way, they have new friends who you know don't really care about them, but you still care about them and can see through them like before.
