My favorite line is "he knows he can help himself, he can tell by a look at the books on his shelf" I just picture an insecure, 30ish man sitting at home on a Friday night looking though his self-help books, and selecting one called "How to attract a wife." or something.
Also, "You don't mind where you are cause you know where you've been" sort of tells me that it's important to see how our past has led us up to our present conditions, and that even though things may seem bad, we can look ahead and know that it's simply the foundation of something else.
