I think it's a depiction of love sung from the point of view of a harsh realist. One who hates the way it can take over your entire being and all your mind and soul and make you feel such strong uncontrollable primal emotions... one who realizes that the obsessive nature of young love is dangerous, and such a passionate affair must burn out eventually to rescue them both.
Yes, love is one of the most incredible and enjoyable things in life. But I hate it, I hate losing control of myself.
