I think this song covers a lot of emotions. I think he has kind of let his life pass him by and has been just going through the motions. He realizes he doesn't really know who he is or what he wants to do and needs to take time to figure it out. I think he's saying that as much as he loves someone else, he has to find who he is first and once he does, he can completely love someone else...just my interpretation but this song is AMAZING.
