I LOVE this song...Okay. Time to pick it apart! First off, before I start, it was thought up by me and my friend, Red that there's a child singing to her mother. The mother never cared for the child. So that's the base to what we think this means-

"you lie silent there before me"

  • Seems like the mother is on her sickbed in the hospital, and the daughter or child is singing. So the mother lies silently before her.

"Your tears, they mean nothing to me"

The mother's at the mercy of the daughter now. And it's her turn to not give a damn.

"The wind...Howling at the window"

Red observes this as a kind of longing. The way it's sung sounds painful.

"The love you never gave, I give to you"

Self-explanitory, although it's like the child was never accepted. She tried and tried, but the mother never cared.

(you) really don't deserve it

See above

"But now, there's nothing you can do"

That's like saying "it's too late, now, to wrewrite our time together, if any."

"So, sleep, in your only memory Of me (not so weep), My...Dearest mother..."

it's kinda like the child walks up to the mother and says this. The only memory the mother will ever have is of her neglect to her child. Major guilt trip there.

"here's a lullaby to close your eyes (goodbye...) it was always you that I despised I don't feel enough for you to cry, oh no here's a lullaby to close your eyes (goodbye...)"

Red and I agreed on this being some sort of a mock-lullaby to her mother, whom is going to close her eyes for the last time.

so insignificant = the weaker part of them (says Red) To add on, that must've been how the mother made the child feel.

hiding away lost = that one explains itself flying high = in heaven?
