The movie is about a man who gets to know this sexy chick (Beatrice Dalle - very hot at that time). And even though they dont know each other very well and the girl with her impulsivness seems kinda whacked, they get along fine between the sheets. So they are the "beautiful strangers" obviously. The plot goes on with the male protagonist quitting his job ("im gonna run away with you.."). Towards the end of the movie the chick goes insane and the chill & sexy mood of the movie changes into sorrow which might explain the mood of the song.
All in all while the movie isnt that "goth" (thank god) it does fit into that cheesy ideal some way.
