very straight forward here, but a great story told in a great way, a suspicious lover tells his girl he is going to phoenix but instead hides underneath his own bed, with just his pride and his pistol, waiting for the 'other shoe to fall', meaning his lovers adulterer's shoes. he proceeds to kill both his lover and his lover's lover and the rest is the results of his actions, he has to bury the two, take off south and 'try to find a doctor who can prescribe an elixir that'll make everything better
'Cept your late wife and her lover'. a very powerful narrative in my opinion.
