I'm not much of a Beatles fan, but I really love this song. I agree, it's about drugs, but it's also about living in your fantasy world and avoiding to see the truth, and how sometimes people do this collectively.
"Living is easy with eyes closed." is the phrase that most stuck with me... it's so easy to put rosy-colored glasses and ignore the world's problems, or even your own personal problems.
"misunderstanding all you see", could also further this point. People would rather ignore the world's problems and not care about those suffering... but rather keep living in their personal "strawberry fields".
I think the song could also be seen from a romantic point of view... The girl is inviting him to her "dream"... but as the song progresses.. both realize is just a dream... an impossible reality they want to live in.
