We all wear a social mask in order to fit in with others and sometimes it tends to get the better of us. Some of us constantly feel compelled to be a certain way in order to feel like we belong ("trying to please you for too long"). We repress our true feelings in order to fit in ("controlling my feelings for too long").
Also, Matt's trying to say that people like to take advantage of you if you're too submissive ("visions of greed you wallow/they make me dream your dreams/they make me scream your screams").
The world's a stage and very few of us are well-rehearsed for it. ;)
