I don't believe that this song is about drugs. The whole album is about the inner fight during depressions and how you try to end it or at least have a break of it - without a real success. With "Fate In Motion" the believe of any improvements in life is lost. In "Observation Slave" there is still hope for him (e.g. the line "With all my perception I let myself wait"), but at this point everything is gone. So this is the hope that no one else has to go through this kind of personal hell, as he has no hope left for himself.
I always wondered about the line "The game is too easy for me to just play", but now I think that this is a description for his way of thinking. While other humans just live their life without any thoughts he starts to ask questions about the sense in everything. About the meaning of life, what's behind his existence etc.. This is the start of his downfall that he started to accept in this song.
I really love the beginning of this song, excellent instrumental work. Just wanted to say that, hehe.
