"If it’s good to instigate than we’re a fast horse, bet on us. I’m not calling you an animal I think we just fight too much."

These lines are awesome, Brandon Boyd shows that even a simple conversation can turn into an arguement.

But I think the meaning of the song is pretty straightforward, it's about a some people in a relationship who fight too much. Boyd makes the metaphor that their relationship is like coal that will later turn into a diamond.

"Give it time girl, the fire feels divine. The sweetest things they burn before they shine."

  • this means that their relationship will be strengthened by the fighting. every couple fights, but over time their relationship will become strong and beautiful like a diamond.

I know I explained it in a pretty corny way, sorry.
