I wish I couldn't identify so well with this song.
the lines that seem especially applicable to my life are "the ones I started there and somehow ended up over here" --I seem to start out with good intentions and end up somewhere completely different, wondering where I went off.
"maybe this is just how I know I'm alive" --I'm into some self-destructive habits, like cutting, and I get defensive about it because it's how I know I'm alive sometimes. I doubt that's what it meant in the context of the song, but that's what it means to me.
