It's like the verse don't match the chorus.

"I don't have a heart left to throw around" - Maybe that means that he's quite hurt by the relationship, doesn't want to move on. He has no heart left to give to someone else.
"Oh and time moves like a train that disappears into the night sky.
Yeah I still get a sad feeling inside to see the red tail lights wave good bye" - This is quite a symbolic line. That time moves on like a train; never ending, always moving, always very fast and disappears in an instant. The red tail lights are the tail lights of a car, so someone leaving in that car, that special person.
