my thoughts on this are that it is about humanity. when he says 'life reduced to ticks', i think it means that life has been reduced to watching time go by.. 'the years they passed and so did we'.. people have come, people have gone. time wears us down, and shows us who we are. 'our bones exposed'. yet time is not the only thing that wore is down. we fought it. 'yet resistance would be brought'.
