I think it's about being happily nostalgic, then realizing how things have changed, and what people have become, and being disappointed by it. It also gives me the impression that the person the songs is based around regrets something in the past, or has a love that he can't move on from. Maybe that love ended up with someone that dragged her down and kept her from flourishing? It could be more specific, though. Just the impression I got.
