@chemotherapy see the only flaw with that is that he says "live my life alone now" therefore that he doesn't die. If he were dying, then based off Gerard's beliefs, he'd be reunited with dead relatives. I think that he's saying that since someone extremely close to him (I.e. wife, mother) that he's isolating himself from everyone.
