The song, as far as I can make out, is a mellow look at the themes of depression, schizophrenia and madness throughout the album. It looks (to me) like he's singing about leaving this world for his own, make-believe world in his head, as he can't cope with the pressures on him in this world. If people need him, he'll be there for them, but until then, he'll be in his make-believe world. And the asylum reference shows the actual truth - he's going insane.
