Hope For Me Yet

I'm not sure if he's saying that,

he hopes that she will someday love him,

or if he's saying that

she loves him, and because of that he's found reason for hope.

I'm leaning towards the latter, considering out upbeat the song is, but the line "Baby, if you could love someone like me" still makes me wonder.
