I really love this song! Both the Eight Wonder version and the PSB's one ...
And I'm especially fond of the idea of the dark past that may scare many others away - but the protagonist here is ready to fight.
Sometimes this can be a good fight - if you're there for someone to help them overcome their demons, help them redefine things...
But of course, sometimes this can be disasterous - I think that certain people tend to fall for 'danger&darkness' - and put up with bad or abusive behavious, because they see themselves as 'the only one who understands him/her...' and will 'save' their lover.. . but are not actually attracted to the lover him/herself - but to the idea of the salvation...a sureshot scenario for a miserable life.
I like how the song can refer to any of these situations..or both ;)
