personally i take it in the literal sense - hes leaving 'when you take your flight' and he finally told her he loved her thinkning she would go with him and she pretended to hate him so itd b easier to say goodbye when he left.
the second verse - 'you should be weaker then sending me home, i cant stop you fighting to sleep' is like when you want to stay wrapped up and falling asleep with him and hes like ok well you better go its getting late.
