This song is about a relationship that is in a holding pattern for some reason, either one person isn't ready to move forward, or there is a question of distance or desired outcome.

The happiness the author finds in the relationship is almost too heavy to bear, and the placement of autumn in the lyrics bends towards the tricky beauty of autumn; the leaves are brilliant, but they fall to the ground, turn brown, and reveal bare trees; truth is revealed.

The author knows that her love will continue to grow for her lover, and she realizes it isn't necessary to have a solution just yet.

In the second verse she acknowledges her own strength and confidence, and accepts that she was anxious in the past. She also alludes to an idealism that she has abandoned.

"Is it in a plan, written in your hand? Believe or understand, something other than Fear is blinding lights, squeeze my eyes so tight Could you make a flower grow? Would you let me know?"

In this section, she is directing her lover to tell her his intentions and she is open to ideas and solutions that haven't been illuminated just yet. She also expresses her fear that she might lose her lover.

Overall, she is telling her lover that he/she is her one true love, so time is immaterial, and she waits endlessly.
