That is a good theory, mine is somewhat of the same. But I think it is just about hollywood and the "image" of hollywood in general.
The glorified image of hollywood is shown to us each and everyday. Whether is is TV, Movies, Clothing, Etc. I feel he is talking about the fact how young and naive people dream of going to hollywood to become "Famous" to "live the dream life".
In Hollywood, it is very expensive to even try to get in the business. If you are at all serious about it, you better been in some time of theater program before, you need to have a shitload of $$$ for an agent. And You even have to find one that is willing to represent you, not to mention the cost of living over there.
most people that go to L.A. for this "Dream" usually don't make it. They end up run and dry with all there money spent trying for something they took a chance to get.
And most of these people are women, or "girls" like he says in this. You see it all the time.. "What do you do for a living?" "Oh, I'm an actress." or "I'm an expiring actress" Blah blah blah..
Most of them get shot down in the very beginning..."The girls on the streets all look sad in this cardboard cut out little town"
Mix this with your meaning, sigmund.. I think we got the message pretty clear.
