The hardest thing must be having to put yourself out there, say all the things you have always wanted to say, when you say it out loud it makes everything so much more real and when it becomes real you can't take it back it could only grow and become something great or a let down
and when you can't say all the things you want to say it is consuming and maybe he just wants to be saved and taken off his chest but i think he lacks the courage so he`ll stay frozen till then
