Terrific lyrics to me. It's talking about a soldier who died during a war under cowardly circunstances on being caught by his enemies. On the 1st part it's still exists a hope that he could be alive, but on the 2nd one his death is a fait accompli, so some relative from him asks the reason why he should die since he was already defenseless when he was caught by those enemies. All of this serves to show how worthless human existence seems during a war and how useless the glory given by this same war is... And, in fact, after seeing all the misfortune provoked by a war, that relative just wants to hold some kind of hope for helping him to recover from this while his heart is tasting a terrible feeling of fear, since he also could have been a victim of this same senseless war.
