Definitely a political song. "Over-simplified" and "lies we bought" sounds like a complaint regarding the US administration's handling of the war in the Middle East. The atmosphere in the nation is very much like, agree or shut up. This person is wanting to speak out, to recognize the "crimes" but he understands the futility of it. He's hurt that people can discuss their "reservations" or debate "accusations." He's wondering what's the point since no one is listening. So he is half-heartedly wonder if he should live "his whole life in silence insead." He wants to speak out, to open a forum for discussion. It clearly reads, "Maybe you're right, but I don't think so." As if saying, I don't agree with you but atleast address my concerns if you think what you're doing is right.
